One of our family’s travel bucket list goals is to ride as many zip lines as possible during our journeys. We really enjoyed the Go Ape Zip Line & Treetop Adventure course in Cleveland, Ohio!
For more details about my zip line rating system, please see this page.
Date of Our Experience
We went to the Go Ape Zip Line & Treetop Adventure in July 2016. We were on a road trip that started from Indiana, where we picked up our nephew, to Niagara Falls, then over to Cleveland and Sandusky (Cedar Point Amusement Park) before heading back to Indiana. We had two adults, a teen and two tweens on the trip.
Cost, Location and Details:
Details about Go Ape’s Cleveland location can be found at their website. Admission is currently $58 for adults and $38 for youth ages 10-15. This is a pretty reasonable price for a three-hour adventure that includes obstacles and zip lines.
You should check out Go Ape’s website, because they own 16 courses in parks across the country as of this writing. The Cleveland location happens to be located in the Mill Stream Run Reservation, which is part of Cleveland Metroparks system.
I really love this model as a win-win-win for parks, Go Ape, and customers. Parks get a fantastic amenity to draw more customers without having to staff or manage it. Go Ape doesn’t have to buy land for their businesses; they can leverage existing natural locations in parks and can draw on park patrons as customers. And customers get more fun ropes course and zip line opportunities!
Based on our experience in Cleveland, we will definitely seek out more Go Ape sites around the US in the future.

Type of Adventure:
Go Ape is primarily a ropes course with some modest zip lines and other adventurous features. There were five separate obstacle courses you have to complete, each containing several different crossings. You end up doing five zip lines and two “Tarzan” swings, which are a blast!
A couple of the obstacles had a choice between normal and difficult routes. The one difficult route I tried was really difficult. The kids did OK, but if you are not in good physical condition I recommend sticking with the standard routes.
Here are some pictures from our adventure.
Experience Level:
This adventure is great for new and experienced adventurers. There are size and age requirements for this adventure, so make sure you check those on their website.
Staff will provide assistance with putting on your harnesses and helmets, and they will also provide a very thorough training at the beginning. But after that, this is a self-guided experience. There is no staff to accompany you through the obstacles or hook you on or off obstacles. Make sure everyone in your party is double-checking their caribiners and practicing safety!
I would say that this place is a bit less of an “adrenaline rush” experience than some of the longer zip lines we’ve done, but the ropes course obstacles are really, really fun, and I definitely got some rush from the Tarzan swings!
Other Features:
Because this adventure is located within Mill Stream Run Reservation, you can make a day of your trip to the course by exploring in the park!
Overall Rating:
This was a super fun experience for anyone ages 10+. The obstacles were challenging and fun, and the zip lines and Tarzan swings added some extra thrill to the experience. It was a great bonding experience for our family that I highly recommend.

June 20, 2018 at 3:17 amYou guys are incredibly brave. Heights are my downfall ever since doing an assault course when I was a kid! Looks like you had great fun though.

June 20, 2018 at 5:44 amThey are really fun and safe, so we don’t find them very scary. They also start with pretty tame lines and get gradually tougher from there. 🙂

June 20, 2018 at 3:41 amI’ve seen these Go Ape adventure parks before and would love to try it. I’m a little afraid of heights, but I think this would be a good challenge. It must be fun doing it surrounded by that incredible landscape too.

June 20, 2018 at 3:54 amThis looks a very fun experience. I am not an adventure but there is a similar attraction in London. I am waiting for my kids to get bigger to bring them there. I am sure they will enjoy it.

June 20, 2018 at 7:29 amSounds like a great adventure for a family who likes to live on the wild side! I went tree top trekking once and am afraid of heights so it is definitely not my thing! Nice to see your family enjoys it and a great way to spend time together.

June 20, 2018 at 9:15 amYes, we really enjoy it. My daughter and husband are naturally a little more anxious around heights, but they have come a long way in overcoming that fear.

June 22, 2018 at 9:45 amIt really is super fun! A great place for friends, for sure. 🙂 We often see groups of adult friends at zip lines and ropes courses, probably more often than we see families!
